Psalm 82

82:1 God has taken his place in the divine council;
in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:
2 “How long will you judge unjustly
and show partiality to the wicked? Selah
3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless;
maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.
4 Rescue the weak and the needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
5 They have neither knowledge nor understanding,
they walk about in darkness;
all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
6 I said, “You are gods,
sons of the Most High, all of you;
7 nevertheless, like men you shall die,
and fall like any prince.”
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth;
for you shall inherit all the nations!

The entire meeting waits until the most important person gets there. Otherwise the group will have to go over any decision they make because the person with the power wasn't there. Now that God has sat down business starts!

What is God's business? "Justice to the weak and the fatherless, maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy." Get in line. Raise a hand and lets get about fulfilling the goal of the divine counsel.

This really is a sweet little Psalm. Not much to it. God is in control and he is caring for those who are needy. How we work that into our own life may vary, but we need to do it. My life looks very different then when I was in Oakland, but Seattle is different then Oakland. Yet there is just as strong of a desire to love those whom God has commanded us.
